[Home] A Little Spring Decor

Simple and refreshing.  That's the look I was going for.  This little table is in our entryway.  I find that if I put out some decorations, it has less chance of being the catchall for keys, sunglasses and mail.  So far, so good!

For a touch of whimsy, I also added a little twig banner.

[Eat] Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Never in a million years did I think that I would be encouraging others to eat brussels sprouts.  Never.  But I was surprised how good these turned out.  Who knew that a little roasting can turn brussels sprouts into something tasty, nutty and buttery-soft. The Mister and the 3 and 5 year old gobbled them up, so definitely a keeper in this house. I actually never have had a bad experience with brussels sprouts.  Mainly because my mom never made them (she has bad memories), and because I wasn't inspired to try them out until a couple of weeks ago. Therefore I was never was scarred with memories of mushy and bitter brussel sprouts that smelled-up the house with sulfurous fumes.  Did I capture that right?

[Oh Martha Monday] More Butterflies

I posted about butterflies last year, but since they are so indicative of Spring (not to mention a favorite of mine), I had to add several more fluttery creations from the folks at Martha Stewart.  Enjoy!

Phew... What a busy week!  One child was on spring break while the other was still in school.  Somehow that translated into a lot of running around to keep the "breaking" child from going stir crazy!  I didn't get a single thing done on the home-front, but Happy Vee and I had a fun week filled with swimming, play dates and just hanging out.  Next year he will be in school every day, so I'm trying to appreciate every minute of our unstructured time.

Have a wonderful weekend!

[Home] Honeycomb-Inspired Spring Mantel

I've always been drawn to the look of a honeycomb and, with hexagons being the shape of the moment, I decided to incorporate the naturally perfect design into our Spring mantel.

Not the typical Easter pastels, but Spring means flowers, flowers mean bees, bees make honeycombs... so there's that connection.  I also like to decorate with natural elements and metal, moss, and burlap seem to fall in nicely with the hexagon honeycomb theme.

Welcome Spring! And An Updated Easter Egg Tree

Spring is in the air!  While we don't have a true winter in these parts, it's still very evident when winter changes over to spring.  The cherry blossoms are in full bloom, the hills are awash in neon yellow ragweed (ah-choo!), the song birds have returned and a family of bunnies has taken over our backyard.  We usually have one or two rabbits in residence all year round, but now there are five of these guys hopping, chasing and frolicking in our backyard.  I love it!  They are messy and they kill parts of our landscape, but the city girl in me eats this kind of stuff up.

yeah he's pretty chill.  he knows that this bunny-lover won't be chasing him away.

Our home is pretty neutral, so I wanted to add some pretty Spring colors. Instead of a traditional Easter Egg tree, I decided to go vertical.  Out of the reach of little hands is always a good thing!  The tulle eggs are light and just the right size to hang on a makeshift branch mobile. The found branches are bound together with wire and the eggs are hanging from translucent thread.  The whole thing is suspended from a Command hook that I've had up since Happy Vee's bubble birthday party last year.

Are you decorating for Spring this year?
