We haven't put up our tree yet (saving that for the weekend), but I feel like I'm finally getting into the holiday spirit. This year I decided to decorate our living room mantel. It's been ignored for too long! I have something fun and kid-oriented planned for our family room mantel, but I decided that the living room would be for me... When I need a time-out. :)

I created the print in Photoshop and blew it up to poster size (20x30). BTW, it only cost me $9 at Costco for a photo quality poster! The black poster frame was painted with copper acrylic paint.
recognize the lyrics? it's from a charlie brown christmas. my kids LOVE this movie.
The unfinished papier mache stars can be found at Michaels. I painted one with copper acrylic paint and the other two I created "snow caps" with white fabric puffy paint and a mix of white flocking powder and tinsel glitter.
The wood bead garland is simply different size unfinished wood beads strung onto twine. And the boxwood garland was cut from my backyard and tied together with twine. The driftwood "garland" was a bargain at TJ Maxx. I think it's meant to be hung from the ceiling.
and holding everything up are clear command hooks. love them!
Although they look delicate, the reindeer are metal.
i purchased them from Home Goods a couple years ago. i'm really, really glad that they are metal and virtually indestructible!
If you're interested, I have tutorials for the modern nutcrackers and the jingle bell burlap garland.
So, one mantel down... one more to go. I can't wait to get the rest of the Christmas decorations up this weekend. Then all I need to do is finish shopping... and take our Christmas Card photo... Then wrap, wrap, wrap... Then ship, ship, ship... Then cook, cook, cook... It's not nice to spread anxiety, so I'll stop there. :)
Have a beautiful weekend!
