Father's Day... It's this Sunday!!! How did it sneak up like that? This year it happens to coincide with my kids' last week of school-- I.N.S.A.N.I.T.Y.
I usually have the boys make something special for The Mister, but it's been busy and I hadn't given it much thought... Until about 10 PM last night when I had an A-Ha moment (don't you love those?). I quickly grabbed some scrap paper, duct tape and scissors. And that's how these "King for a Day" Father's Day crowns came about...
I made a couple of extra mini-crowns and decked them out with some Mod Melts, the new embellishment tool from Plaid. The Mod Melts were originally intended for another project but, since I have the "Royal Icons" mold, I kinda had to use them on these crowns.
The kids will decorate this full-size crown for their Daddy. Hopefully they'll be able to agree on a design...

Father's Day Duct Tape Crown
long strip of paper, 36 in x 6 in -- I used craft paper. Card stock taped together also works.

crown template - You can make your own, or download it here.
scissors
bling! rhinestones, stickers, etc. -- I used mod melts with the "royal icons" mod mold. Both will be available exclusively at Michaels by July.
hot glue gun or tacky glue
instructions:
- Cover your paper with three 36-inch strips of duct tape. Then flip the paper over and repeat on the reverse side.
- Print your crown template. You'll need 2-3 sets to cover an adult-sized head. Cut out the template and tape it together, end to end.
- Align your template to the bottom of your duct tape-covered paper and cut out the zig zag pattern. Cut out carefully in case you want to use the remaining paper for another crown.
- If you follow these instructions, you can get 2 full-size crowns or 1 full-size and 2 mini crowns.
Happy Vee modeling a mini-crown complete with gummy fruit sticking out of his mouth. It's no surprise that he was named "Most Entertaining" in his preschool class. :)
These crowns are fun. They'd also be great to use at a birthday party-- Perhaps a Princess party for the girls? Or maybe those green pigs with crowns from Angry Birds for the boys? Endless possibilities. :)
